Pineapple Express

Photobucket

I am going to check out The Pineapple Express tonight at BAM with a Q&A with the director David Gordon Green.

I've been excited about this since the Red Ban trailer came out a few months ago which was good because it was HILARIOUS but bad because people started abusing M.I.A's Paper Planes and kind of spoiled the song for me.

I'll let you guys know how if it lives up to the hype.

New Survey: 49% of Blacks in NYC have Herpes

New study out today about the rise in Herpes infections in NYC.

Please be careful. This does not go away with a cream.

Here are some quick (and scary) facts:

  • More than a fourth of adult New Yorkers are infected with Herpes Simplex Virus-2, the virus that causes genital herpes.
  • Genital herpes is more common in New York City than nationally (26% of adults versus 19%)
  • The rate is higher among women than men (36% versus 19%)
  • Higher among blacks than whites (49% versus 14%)
  • Higher among men who have sex with men than those who don’t (32% versus 18%)

The full report by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene can be found here.

Socialite Slapdown

Calling all my Vogue, NY Mag, and New York Social Diary Readers...

Head over to socialiteslapdown.com to play The New York Observer's bracket and vote on your favorite socialite.

The player who comes closest to predicting the results of the entire tournament has the opportunity to win a Gervill designer watch--although I would much rather get an invite to next year's Costume Institute Ball.

Random aside, but I'd like to see the gorgeous Miss Zoe Kravitz take her place on the New York social scene but the first step would be for her to never wear these run over shoes again.

MuraWhhaaa???

So I was thinking of taking my little sister to the Murakami exhibit this weekend at the Brooklyn museum but then I saw this piece from the exhibit and I feel like I may have to do some uncomfortable explanations of the birds and the bees:

Do Not Take Lessons in Crime From 80's Movies

I don't know why these guys thought they would get away with this. Definitely one for the books in terms of stupid criminal behavior.
Two men wheeled a dead man through the streets in an office chair to a check-cashing store and tried to cash his Social Security check before being arrested on fraud charges, police said.

David J. Dalaia and James O'Hare pushed Virgilio Cintron's body from the Manhattan apartment that O'Hare and Cintron shared to Pay-O-Matic, about a block away, spokesman Paul Browne said witnesses told police.

"The witnesses saw the two pushing the chair with Cintron flopping from side to side and the two individuals propping him up and keeping him from flopping from side to side," Browne said.

The men left Cintron's body outside the store, went inside and tried to cash his $355 check, Browne said. The store's clerk, who knew Cintron, asked the men where he was, and O'Hare told the clerk they would go and get him, Browne said.

A police detective who was having lunch at a restaurant next to the check-cashing store noticed a crowd forming around Cintron's body, and "it's immediately apparent to him that Cintron is dead," Browne said.

Brooklynites Just Got A Get Out of Jail Free Card

Do you have a brother, cousin boyfriend who is a dope boy in Brooklyn?

Was he arrested in October of 2006?

Good news!

The NY Times reports today that all the evidence from every narcotics arrest in Brooklyn on Oct. 20, 2006, has vanished without a trace.

"Despite an inquiry that began over a year ago, officials still cannot say whether the drugs were lost, stolen or thrown away. Investigators believe that a police officer serving as a courier took several large plastic bags of drugs as far as the laboratory. There, the trail goes cold."

I have some ideas for potential suspects:
